Tanuj Samaddar is a penultimate-year student at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, an accomplished artist and youth leader from Assam. His journey reflects an inspiring blend of creativity, leadership, and social commitment.
He was conferred the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar by the Hon’ble President of India in 2021 and received the Karmaveer Chakra Award from UNDP in 2024. In 2023, he was honored with the Kentucky Colonel Commission, the highest civilian award of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA. His community engagement initiatives have earned him a nomination for the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2022 and a nomination for Assam’s third-highest civilian award, Assam Gaurav, in 2024.
Tanuj is actively contributing to global policy and climate action. He is a member of UNESCO’s Inclusive Policy Lab, the Commonwealth Youth Climate Network (CYCN) working group, and the YOUNGO (UNFCCC youth constituency) working group. He also serves as a Commission Member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP). His work has been recognized by several heads of state, cabinet ministers, and the Prime Minister of India.
Currently, Tanuj is serving as a Research Intern in the office of the National Spokesperson of BJP, Shri Shehzad Poonawala. He is collaborating with IIT Guwahati on developing an e-learning module to spread rabies awareness across Northeast India and is engaged with the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). His prior experience includes working with Members of Parliament and think tanks in drafting policy briefs, white papers, and research-based reports. He is also part of the UN Geneva Youth Network on Beyond GDP.
